The Lancet Summit: HIV and Healthy Longevity

24 - 25 February 2022 | Online and On-Demand

The first Lancet Summit: HIV and Healthy Longevity is supported jointly by The Lancet HIV and The Lancet Healthy Longevity. It is being held to address the increasingly important issue of HIV within the ageing population. The phenomenal success of antiretroviral therapy has led to more people worldwide living and growing older with HIV, but despite it being a growing demographic, the unique challenges for this population remain poorly understood. People who contract HIV later in life also face specific challenges, including late diagnosis, complications with polypharmacy, and stigma. As the global population ages, with more people remaining sexually active throughout life, age-specific issues around prevention and stigma associated with HIV will only become more pertinent. This clinically focused conference aims to bring together key opinion leaders in HIV and geroscience to present new research, analysis, and discussion, and to nurture cross-boundary collaboration.

The programme will cover these topics:

  • HIV prevention in older people
  • HIV diagnosis in older people
  • HIV treatment in older people
  • Polypharmacy
  • Multimorbidity
  • Stigma in older people
  • Mechanisms of ageing and HIV
  • Long term care of people with HIV
  • Care in LMICs for older people with HIV
