Dr Vivian I. Avelino-Silva, MD PhD, is an Associate professor at the Department of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Sao Paulo, also working as an assistant professor at the School of Medicine, Faculdade Israelita de Ciencias da Saude Albert Einstein, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. During her PhD program, Dr Avelino-Silva completed the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Advanced Training in Clinical Research course, and subsequently became an Adjunct professor at the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, UCSF. Her scholarly interests include HIV and other STI prevention and treatment, with a focus on key populations and older adults; immune responses to vaccines; and vaccine hesitancy. Along with Mario Vilhena, a human-rights specialist, she recently co-founded Instituto Saudiversidade (https://saudiversidade.com.br), a non-profit organization focused on communication and education activities aiming to promote the integral health of diverse populations.
