Rei Haruyama, MD, MSc, National Center for Global Health and Medicine, Japan
Rei Haruyama is Assistant Director of Bureau of International Medical Cooperation at National Center for Global Health and Medicine, Japan. She is an obstetrician and gynecologist, having more than 15 years’ experience in serving women to improve their health in Japan, as well as Cambodia and other resource-constraint countries. She obtained her Masters in global health policy at the University of Tokyo. Previous positions include short-term consultant at Japan International Cooperation Agency, Assistant Professor in Institute of Global Affairs, and attending physician in the Department of Women’s Health at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Japan. She has also served as a consultant for WHO, where she contributed in global meetings and the development of WHO publications on cervical cancer, anatomic pathology, and cancer control in general. Combined with extensive clinical experience, her professional interest extends to the implementation of health programmes and research aimed to improve equitable access to women’s health services, including gynaecological cancer care. She has provided technical support on cervical cancer in several countries by supporting the development of clinical guidelines and protocols, organising training sessions, and conducting monitoring and evaluation.
